Our Story

How Tyler Madison Started

Tyler Madison was founded in 1995 in Apple Valley, Minnesota by Jerry Kistner. Jerry was the first in his family to earn a college degree, and after years working in the wire rope industry, he saw an opportunity that nobody else was filling. Manufacturing practices had gotten rigid. Customers were treated like order numbers. Jerry believed custom cable assembly could be done with a personal touch, where every customer’s needs shaped the work instead of fitting into a one-size template.

He started the company with a phone line and a fax machine. The early years meant tight budgets and long hours. The company is named after Jerry’s two children, Tyler and Madison, a reminder that this was always a family operation from day one.

Tyler Madison Today

Today, Tyler Kistner leads the company as CEO and second-generation owner. Under Tyler’s leadership, the company has: moved to Eagan MN, expanded its manufacturing floor, diversified it’s customer base by a wide margin and positioned itself to be a key player in the control cable industry.

What hasn’t changed is the founding principle: know your customer, understand their application, and build assemblies that work the first time.

What We Value

How We Operate

Tyler Madison is a family business that takes the long view. That means fair pricing, honest communication, and assemblies that hold up so you’re not replacing parts that should have lasted.

We also care about how we operate beyond the shop floor. A portion of our profits is reinvested into environmental initiatives, and we work to give our team fair compensation, sustainable schedules, and room to grow professionally and personally. We believe a business can deliver excellent products while also being a good place to work and a responsible steward of resources.
